HANDMADE ZILS FROM TURKEY
These are one-hole zils in 3 different sizes. If you are used to the 2 hole variety they may take some getting used to. I hand-selected them and purchased them in Tunel - the "instrument district" on the shopping street Istiklal in Istanbul. They have the high-pitched sound you often hear in old recordings of Turkish music. All zils have been pre-strung by the maker with black elastic. They can of course be re-strung to fit individual fingers.

"Baby Zils" - These zils are very small and light. Actual size is 1 3/8" in diameter. Fun for children, but also for the dancer/musician who wants a tiny light zil with a high pitched sound.

"Student/Intermediate" Zils - These zils are medium size and weight and good for both students and professionals who are new to playing one-hole zils. Actual size is 1 5/8" diameter. These are medium weight and have a medium-high pitch. Don't be fooled by the name, these zils are absolutely appropriate for professional gigs. It just depends on the sound you are looking for.

"Pro Zils" - These zils are larger and heavier than those listed above. Actual size is 1 7/8" in diameter. They have a lovely bell sound when played. These are like the zils I use in performance, only a tad lighter, so they won't weigh you down!

Zil Bags - No 2 alike. These small fabric pouches vary in size and color. They are made of the same "kilim" material as Turkish Kilim pillow covers. They also make great coin purses. Limited availability. You may specifiy in your description either brown/beige (2 available), dark red flowers or light red flowers (1 each available) - or we will choose for you.
